QWADD may seem a random sort of band name, but it's actually an acronym for the last names of the group's members: Matt Quigle (bass), Sara Winkelman (drums), Chuck Amble (guitar), Alex Drake (guitar) and Kristine Drake (drums). Yes, that's correct -- two drummers, giving the quintet some extra low-end oomph.
They've recorded enough tracks for an album with Jon Chvojicek at Master Blaster Studios, but Quigle says an official release isn't planned anytime in the near future. The band is currently working on another batch of songs featuring Winkelman's new digital drum kit.
Quigle says when a release does happen it may well be an extravaganza featuring covers of songs by bands that QWADD's members have been a part of in the past, including Sailor Harlette, Tormentula, Shotdown and many others.
Luckily a number of songs from the completed sessions have slipped out, including the short-but-neat "Talkin' Trash." Clocking in at just over a minute, the song sounds like Betty Blowtorch covering Motorhead covering the Ramones on an aggression bender.
