Madison track-and-field fans will have an opportunity to see former UW-Madison distance runner Matt Tegenkamp run before he leaves for the 2008 Olympics in Beijing, China next week.
Tegenkamp, along with 2008 U.S. Olympic Trials qualifiers Chris Solinsky, Jonathon Riley and Sean Quigley, will run a 1500-meter race at the Dan McClimon Memorial Track on the UW campus Tuesday at 9 p.m. The group will attempt to run the fastest metric mile on Wisconsin soil. Admission is free.
Tegenkamp will compete in the 5,000 meters at the 2008 Summer Olympics for the United States.
According to a release from the UW Athletic Department's Communications office, the McClimon Track record for the men's 1500 meters is 3 minutes, 42.63 seconds, set by John Wild of Oklahoma State in 1996.
