Tour of the prairies on the Southwest Bike Path on Aug. 16 (Sun) from 6-8 p.m.
The tour begins either at the southwest end where Odana Road meets the Southwest Bike Path at the Dudgeon-Monroe prairie or northeast along the SW Bike Path at the Prospect St. ramp garden, with two other prairies one at Glenway and one at Commonwealth.
A city grant provided monies for the Dudgeon-Monroe Neighborhood Nature and History Trail. The Community Planning Grant's intent was to help beautify public spaces in neighborhoods and invite the public to share in these places.
On board will be those who created the prairies plus Susan Carpenter, the Outreach Specialist for the native plant gardens at the UW Arboretum and Steve Glass, emeritus land care manager at the U-W Arboretum and restoration ecologist.
In addition, there will be free butterfly weed and common milkweed plants (the monarchs' favorites) given away by The Wild Ones to encourage plantings to support the monarchs and other pollinators.
