Adam Ostrar
Indie Coffee 1225 Regent St., Madison, Wisconsin 53715
press release: A veteran band leader and songwriter, Adam (Busch) Ostrar is making a stop at Indie next week. In his prior home city, Chicago, he fronted Sonio and Manishevitz on the Jagjaguwar label. He’s also a member of The Moles (with Richard Davies) and the instrumental group Boxhead Ensemble.
His solo music has earthy rustic qualities reminiscent of John Fahey, Tim Buckley, with some of the mystical English folk of Bert Jansch and Robbie Basho. He's known to cover Eno and touches on Moles/Richard Davies melodies.
Some impressions from the press:
"This is a stunning work of low-key drama and mystery, full of hidden places and surprising touches. I can’t wait to hear more from Adam Ostrar – or whatever he goes by the next time out, because this music is damn near flawless" -- Ink 19
"Now, falling into our hands like a Honeycrisp from the highest branch, Austin-via-Chicago singer-songwriter Adam Ostrar (of Manishevitz — also formerly known as Adam Busch) is blowing an ochre-tinted gust of folksy sweetness on his new LP Brawls In The Briar. Pull the wool coat from your closet and ponder the downright poetic thinning of the treetops with the Bert Jansch-plays-Tropicália-
"Some balladry is so intimate you won’t want to share it with anyone else, and Ostrar is giving us precisely that"-- Austin Town Hall
"The overall sound is welcoming, warm and comfortable, with Ostrar's unpretentious vocals drawing the listener in and the gentle melodies keeping them around and encouraging further listening"-- KCRW
“The record’s ten songs encompass the many things that have made Ostar’s music with his old bands Manishevitz and Sonoi appealing: rustic acoustic picking, glowing brass fanfares, Eno-esque atmospherics, and power-pop waltzing. And he replaces the jittery qualities of his earlier work with a warm sense of wonder—it’s not only the most accomplished record of his career, it’s the most appealing”-- Chicago Reader
