Alien Worlds: How We Find Exo-planets
Goodman South Madison Library 2222 S. Park St. (Village on Park), Madison, Wisconsin 53713
Twenty years ago the only planets we knew were the ones that orbit our Sun. Now we know of nearly a thousand planets orbiting other stars in our Galaxy. How do astronomers find these worlds? What are they like? How many are out there? How can we explore them? This talk will address these questions and more. While you're at the library, be sure to check out our Exoplanet online display -- hooked up to NASA's Kepler Project, with a running count of exoplanets as they are discovered! Speaker: Dr. Jim Lattis is Director of UW Space Place and Faculty Associate in the UW-Madison Dept. of Astronomy. His specialty is the history of astronomy.
