Spring 2016 Residency
Amy Franceschini is a social artist and designer who facilitates encounters and encourages exchanges through temporary and permanent public art. An overarching theme in her work is a perceived conflict between nature and culture and the contradictions inherent in this divide. In 1995, Amy founded Futurefarmers, an international collective of artists, activists, researchers, farmers, scientists and architects working together to propose alternatives to the social, political and environment organization of space.
The spring 2016 Interdisciplinary Arts Residency is sponsored by the UW-Madison Arts Institute and is hosted by the Art Department. Co-sponsoring departments include Design Studies, Horticulture and Community and Environmental Sociology. While in residence, Amy will teach a semester-long course in interdisciplinary social art in public places, titled "Ecology of Research: Seeds of Time." Students will also participate in an international public art project! There will be opportunities to connect with Amy at various public artist talks (part of the Art Department Visiting Artists Colloquium) and other public events. Invited guest artists of the residency include Joe Reily, Stijn Schiffeleers and Michael Swaine. Events are free, open to the public, and take place in Madison unless noted otherwise.
