Thursday, June 16, 2016, Mitby Theater-Madison College Truax Campus, 1701 Wright St,
In the world of autism advocacy, Temple Grandin, Ph.D., is as famous as a rock star. The story of how she grew from a nonverbal child to one of the world’s leading authorities on livestock behavior and welfare has been told in books, documentaries, and even an Emmy-winning HBO film.
Her bestselling books have shared fascinating insights into the minds of animals and her life with autism. In 2010, Time Magazine named Dr. Grandin one of the “100 Most Influential People in the World” for the inspiration she has offered children with autism and their families, and also for her industry-changing work in livestock handling.
One of Dr. Grandin’s current research interests is the use of human-animal interaction to treat conditions of the mind and body. This work is coming to life at Colorado State University’s Temple Grandin Equine Center, where horse-based therapies will be studied and provided.
