About 15 minutes west of Sauk City, you can slip back into the early days of the 20th century at the Witwen Park & Campground. Built in 1918 as the Sauk County Camp Meeting Association, this verdant area on the banks of Honey Creek features the original tabernacle that accommodated worshippers, Now, the grounds host summer concerts. The season starts on July 9, with Art Stevenson & High Water, a four-piece Wisconsin bluegrass band. They're followed by Madtown Mannish Boys, July 16; Honey Pies, July 23; and WheelHouse, July 30. Concession sales begin at 4:30 p.m., with music at 6 p.m.
media release: The Witwen Summer Concert Series will take place at the historic Witwen Campground, beginning July 9 and continuing the following Saturdays, July 16, 23, and 30.
The July 9 concert will feature Art Stevenson & High Water (Bluegrass).
July 16 we will welcome the Madtown Mannish Boys (Blues).
On July 23, The Honey Pies will join us (Traditional and Original Americana).
July 30, our final concert of the summer, will feature WheelHouse (Americana/Bluegrass).
Food will be available for purchase from Middleton BBQ at the first two concerts, and from Bob's BBQ Emporium at the last two concerts. In addition, Cub Scout Pack 373 will offer popcorn, candy, soda and water for sale during the concerts.
Gates open at 4:30 pm; music begins at 6 pm and ends at 8 pm. Free parking on site, with handicapped parking available.
Beer is not served at Witwen, but carry-ins of adult beverages are allowed. Please bring your own lawn chairs (very limited picnic table seating available). All concerts are free of charge, with a "Pass the Hat" opportunity to donate during intermission.
