Bahamas has an upcoming concert at The Barrymore in Madison on October 13. The Canadian indie rocker (aka Afie Jurvanen) is embarking on “The Bootcut Tour” in support of his new album, Bootcut, which was released 9/15 on Brushfire Records.
Bahamas’ dream of recording an album in Nashville has finally come true with Bootcut. His love of classic country music shines through on this new collection of 10 songs (and 1 voice memo of his daughters, “Girls Bugging Me”) that seamlessly blend elements of country tradition with Bahamas’ signature genre-bending mix of quirky pop, R&B, folk, soul, alternative, and a dose of subtle wit. It’s important to note that Bootcut isn’t Bahamas going country – Jurvanen has taken his admiration for the genre and his reverence for the musicians who perform it to make an album that exudes some of the great sounds of Music City. However, as you’ll hear, it still remains very much Bahamas, featuring some clever storytelling, warm sincerity, and a little fun. Check out the first three singles from the album: the cheerful & content “Somebody Just Like Me” (HERE), the pedal-steeled ode to second marriages “Second Time Around” (HERE), and the rollicking “Working On My Guitar” (HERE).
Bootcut is the follow-up to 2020’s critically acclaimed Sad Hunk, which won the Juno Award for Adult Alternative Album of the Year. The album’s single, “Done Did Me No Good,” was recently featured in the final season of Ted Lasso (Episode 10). With six previous albums under his belt, Bahamas has earned a Grammy nomination, a wealth of all-important admiration, and a fanbase that has been building exponentially. He has almost 3 million monthly listeners on Spotify; his biggest streaming track, “Lost In The Light,” has garnered over 181 million streams, while “All The Time” has 120 million and counting.
