Behind the Scenes is back by popular demand! We presented this exhibition briefly earlier this year to coincide with the Southern Graphics Council International printmaking conference that took place in Madison in March 2022. Upon request, we are happy to present a revised version of the exhibition for the summer season.
The exhibition includes prints by a broad range of artists to demonstrate the expansive ways—from abstract expressionism to photographic representation—artists may use the printmaking medium to engage with personal, political, social, and environmental themes.
Behind the Scenes shows viewers examples of woodblocks, photopolymer plates, etching plates, working proofs, and other ephemera created during the collaborative printmaking process. The finished prints are exhibited alongside the plates and materials to illustrate a portion of the extensive processes that are used to create prints in the Tandem Press studio.
Artists included in the exhibition include Suzanne Caporael, Jim Dine, Jeffrey Gibson, David Lynch, Manabu Ikeda, Judy Pfaff, Alison Saar, Mickalene Thomas, and more.
