Ben Ferris Jazz Ensemble
Taliesin-Hillside Theater, Spring Green 6604 State Highway 23, Spring Green, Wisconsin 53588
press release: A diverse selection of jazz music spanning many genres and time periods will come alive at Taliesin’s Hillside Theatre Monday July 16, at 7:30 PM, with the Ben Ferris Trio. This is the third concert of the Rural Musicians Forum summer series Beautiful Music-Beautiful Space.
And its all about the bass. This is not one of those bands where the bassist gets to stand in the back while his mates carry the load. Ben Ferris is the bassist, and also an educator from Madison, WI. A student of National Endowment for the Arts Jazz Master Richard Davis, he performs regularly throughout the Midwest with his trio, his quintet, and his octet, and plays with a diverse selection of musical ensembles including Mr. Chair, the Darren Sterud Orchestra, Gabe Burdulis Band, Nuggernaut, The Jon Hoel Trio, The Big Payback and the Neophonic Jazz Orchestra.
Also featured is pianist Dave Stoler, a native of Madison, who has formerly resided in New York City, Milwaukee and Miami. One of the busiest keyboarders in the area, he also performs regularly at Smalls Jazz Club in New York City. He has a recording titled “Urban Legends” and is preparing several upcoming recordings slated for release in 2018. He was a semi-finalist in the Thelonious Monk Piano Competition, The American Jazz Piano Competition, and a finalist in the Jacksonville Jazz Piano Competition. A graduate of UW-Madison with a degree in Music Composition, he also has a Master of Music Degree in Jazz Performance from the University of Miami-Coral Gables.
There will be no admission charge for this exciting live jazz event, although the audience is encouraged to support the concert series with free will offerings, which it has done for the past 33 years. Hillside Theatre is located at 6604 State Hwy 23, about five miles south of Spring Green.
