Billy Strings
press release: Some might say Billy Strings heard the guitar and came out dancing. Born William Apostol after the grandfather with whom he shares a birthday, Billy Strings grew up with instruments in hand and music in his bones. Son of musician Terry Barber, Strings relishes memories strumming bluegrass around a campfire with the support and encouragement of family.
The Traverse City, Michigan, native first made himself known back in 2011 when he walked onto the stage at the famed Round Up open mic and started to play. These days Strings is known for high energy and fast picking. Back then the crowd didn’t know what hit ‘em. Since then Strings has gone on to share the stage with Del McCoury, David Grisman, Greensky Bluegrass, Sam Bush and many other big names. He won the 2016 IBMA Momentum Award; his first full-length album, Turmoil & Tinfoil, hit #3 on the Billboard Bluegrass Charts; and he got Rolling Stone’s 2017 endorsement as one of the “10 New Country Artists You Need to Know”.
Accolades aside, those lucky enough to have experienced Billy Strings on stage now know what a phenom he is! Strings has the stage presence of a seasoned veteran, but one with a tremendous amount of youthful energy. His style of Bluegrass is as infectious as it is memorable.
Easily one of the most enthusiastic performers you’ll see this year, Billy Strings returns to the STOUGHTON OPERA HOUSE on Friday, September 28 at 7:30 pm. Tickets are $25 and can be purchased online at www.stoughtonoperahouse.com or by calling the box office at (608) 877-4400, Tuesday-Friday, 9:00 am- 4:30 pm.
