Blue Mounds Area Project
Time: 6:30-9:00 PM Thursday June 18, 2015
Location: 5599 Westmeath Lane, Blanchardville
Free and open to the public.
Please join the Blue Mounds Area Project for an evening tour of a great private landowner stewardship project. Marci and Jim Hess have 2 restored prairies and 5 acres of woods, along with a newly-planted 12 acre unit which has been under preparation for two years. Their overarching purpose is biodiversity, and to that end they use bio-inventories to inform their evolving management strategies. They'll tell us about their citizen science monitoring of bats, kestrel, bluebirds, rerptiles, and insects. Marci has promised to get out the moth light once it gets dark to see what we can pull in.
We'll have a short guided walk on the property followed by a potluck picnic. We'll supply brats, buns, beverages, and a grill. Please bring a dish to pass.
The Blue Mounds Area Project (BMAP) is an organization based in Mount Horeb that seeks to inspire, inform and empower private landowners in the Southwestern Wisconsin region to enjoy, protect and restore native biodiversity and ecosystem health.
