James Earl Tate has been hosting an open jam for blues players for more than three decades in the Madison area. Former Madison Blues Society member Luke Parker has researched the history of the jam, and will talk about what he has learned at this 30-year celebration of the event. Of course, the evening also includes the weekly jam with Tate & the 008 Band.

From Luther Allison's European Tour to the early days of Madison's Blues scene at the Nitty Gritty, James Earl Tate has been dedicated to the the Blues. Tate (as he prefers to be called) has been hosting Blues Jams for more than 30 years in clubs around the Madison area from O'Cayz Corral to the King Club, Anchor Inn, Liquid Lyrics, the Janesville VFW and now the Knuckle Down Saloon. Over the years, this unique gathering has included many of the best artists around, all working together under Tate's direction, to create music with a universal appeal.
Today, this tradition continues at the Knuckle Down Saloon with the best in the area coming every Thursday night to make great Blues music. Tate's direction provides the framework that makes it all hang together, delighting fans for many years. Participating musicians find that making this connection with Tate and his history gives them a special feeling of membership in a family dating back to the earliest days of music in America.
