Historian Bobbie Malone will discuss the research for her new book Lois Lenski: Storycatcher (University of Oklahoma Press).
Malone's research delves into the dozens of Lenski archives around the country to document her early work in picture books and historical fiction, as well as her many regional novels. For these, Lenski lived as an "embedded" author in communities around the nation to learn about children's lives in places such as Chinatown in San Francisco, rural central Florida, and the Louisiana bayou. Lenski wrote about children who were not typically included in books of the 1940s and 1950s, ushering in a new era of social realism.
Sponsored by the Friends of the CCBC, Inc. The book will be available for sale and a signing and reception will follow the lecture. Free parking in Lot 45, across from the CCBC on Dayton and Mills Questions? Call 608-263-3720.
