Booker T. Jones
As a childhood musical prodigy who got his professional start at 16, this octogenarian has spent nearly seven decades on stage behind a keyboard, banging out instrumental hits like “Green Onions” and “Behave Yourself.” The longtime frontman of Booker T. & the M.G.'s is a true legend on the organ and piano, and his work as an architect of what would become American soul music earned him a Grammy Award for Lifetime Achievement. Despite these accolades, he’s also known as a minimalist, letting some of the emotion in his instrumentals be savored in the space between the notes.
