Brayton Lot Redevelopment
media release: The city of Madison Planning Department is hosting a public meeting to discuss the future of the Brayton Lot (Block 113) downtown. The Brayton Lot is a two-acre surface parking lot situated three blocks from Capitol Square along East Washington Avenue in the First Settlement Neighborhood. The future of this site has been addressed in multiple city adopted plans over nearly 30 years. After being used as a staging area for the construction of the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) project, the site will now be redeveloped.
You are invited to attend the public meeting on Monday, February 3 at 6:30 p.m. via Zoom. You can join the virtual meeting using your computer, smartphone, or tablet, or you can listen in via telephone. You will receive login information after registering at this link.
City staff will review a draft Request for Proposals (RFP) document to redevelop the block during the meeting, including the scoring criteria specifications. A copy of the draft RFP is available on the project website at this link. The discussion will explore goals of the redevelopment and what will be required of the project due to the BRT funding agreement with the Federal Transit Administration.
At this stage of the process, nothing about the redevelopment has been planned or decided, including building design. Work on those details will begin after a development partner is selected. Once a development partner is approved by the Common Council, the proposed development will go through the normal City land use approval process, including reviews by City boards, commissions, and committees, all of which will provide an opportunity for public comment throughout the process.
