press release: Portion of proceeds go to Madison Courage to Teach. $50 ($45 adv.).
Singer-songwriter Carrie Newcomer returns to Madison on Friday, November 5, 8:00 pm at The Bur Oak, 2262 Winnebago St, Madison. It’s part of the album release tour for her new record, Until Now (Available Light), her 19th release.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, Carrie helped found a new online concert platform, Mandolin, with her husband Robert Meitus as a way for her and other artists including Lucinda Williams to continue performing. And as fun as that was, she’s thrilled to be back in front of live audiences.
Dubbed a “prairie mystic” by the Boston Globe, Carrie has inspired listeners with her soulful wisdom throughout her career. Until Now offers a balm for this exhausted age of pandemic and political upheaval. Known for her rich alto voice, musical depth, Carrie “asks all the right questions” according to Rolling Stone, which also praised “the bluesy warmth of her voice” and called her songs “rapturously tuneful.”
In these songs, Newcomer tells the universal human story of loss, resiliency, spiritual connection, and hope with the grace, compassion, and humor that characterizes her work. “We have all lived through a time of great unraveling,” Newcomer says. “Yet, with great disruption comes a possibility for change. We can’t just be healed; we must be transformed.”
