CEE Fall Symposium
media release: The Center for Ecology and the Environment at the University of Wisconsin–Madison is pleased to announce its upcoming Fall Symposium, to be held on Wednesday, October 21 and Thursday, October 22, from 3:00 to 6:00 PM at Union South.
Symposium website = https://ecology.wisc.edu/fall-symposium-2026/
Registration is now open!
This two-day event will feature two keynote addresses by Dr. May Berenbaum, a leading ecologist at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign who studies the interactions between insects and plants, including herbivores and pollinators, and their implications in the organization of natural communities and agroecosystems. Her work reveals the biochemical, genetic, and molecular mechanisms underlying interactions between insects and the plants they consume, including detoxification of natural and synthetic chemicals. She also advocates for applying ecological principles in developing sustainable management practices for natural and agricultural communities.
Dr. Berenbaum has received too many awards to list, but notably she received the Tyler Prize for Environmental Achievement (2011-aka "Nobel Prize for theEnvironment”), is a member of the National Academy of Sciences (2012), and serves as Editor in Chief of the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences (since 2019).
Preceding Dr. Berenbaum's keynotes each day, the symposium will include presentations from two UW-Madison Faculty members.
The symposium is free and open to the public, and we warmly welcome faculty, students, researchers, and community members to attend.
