Colombia after the Conflict: Implementing the Most Ambitious Peace Deal in the World
UW Ingraham Hall 1155 Observatory Drive, Madison, Wisconsin
press release: Please join UW Latin American, Caribbean and Iberian Studies Program for the LACIS Lunchtime Lecture, Tuesdays 12:30pm-1:30PM - 206 Ingraham Hall.
Three years after the signing of the Colombian Peace Deal, a question mark still hangs over its long term success. Why are there still guerrilla groups and other illegal armed groups in the country? Why did the FARC’s top negotiator turn against the peace deal? What is the link between cocaine and violence in Colombia? What will transitional justice really look like for those who committed war crimes and crimes against humanity?
Presented by Colombian American reporter Mariana Palau.
The event is free and open to the public, and lunch will be served at noon, on a first come, first serve basis. Please note that while the lecture will begin at 12:30, we will begin serving lunch at Noon which is NEW this semester.
