If you have not yet participated in the blanket-placing olympics for this summer, time grows short — the final edition of Concerts on the Square is here; the concert is postponed until Thursday, July 31, due to rainy weather. The Wisconsin Chamber Orchestra’s free concert series on the Capitol lawn concludes with guest pianist Sylvia Jiang, a native of New Zealand and a rising star on the keys; Jiang will make her Madison debut with a performance of Shostakovich’s Piano Concerto No. 2 in F. July 30 update from WCO: The Wisconsin Chamber Orchestra (WCO) announces that today’s scheduled performance of “Shostakovich & Beethoven” will be postponed due to the threat of severe weather. The concert will take place on the rain date of Thursday, July 31 at 7 PM. Unattended blankets can be put out on the Capitol lawn beginning at 3 PM, the street opens at 5 PM for attendees to visit food vendors and concession booths, and the table area will open at 5 PM for reservations.
“Shostakovich” is the sixth and final performance of the Concerts on the Square 2025 season and features the debut of rising star pianist Sylvia Jiang performing “Piano Concerto No. 2 in F Op. 102” by Shostakovich. The concert opens with “An American City” by composer Eric Gould, and the grand finale showcases Beethoven’s “Symphony No. 5”, with its instantly recognizable four-note motif that’s become one of the most iconic intros in the classical world.

Concerts on the Square takes place on Wednesdays at 7:00 PM starting June 25, 2025, and ending on July 30, 2025 on the King Street corner of Capitol Square and are free and open to the public. Every performance of Concerts on the Square is free and open to the entire community. On each concert day, unattended blankets can be put down starting at 3 PM, the street is closed to traffic at 5 PM, and the performance begins at 7 PM. The WCO will have limited reserved seating available for those with accessibility needs located on the King Street corner of Capitol Square.
