Join country folk duo County Hwy PD as they start each movie night with a few songs from each episode of Country Music before we watch this legendary series.
Country Music is a documentary miniseries created and directed by Ken Burns and written by Dayton Duncan that premiered on PBS on September 15, 2019. The eight-part series chronicles the history and prominence of country music in American culture.
Country Music presents country music from its earliest stars, such as the Carter Family, and Jimmie Rodgers, followed by influential singers of the likes of Hank Williams, through to notable acts of the second half of the 20th century such as Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson and Dolly Parton, finishing in the 1990s.
County Hwy PD is the musical duo Prentice Berge (guitar) & Daithi Wolfe (fiddle) who have played many of the songs used on the Country Music soundtrack all their lives. From 2014-2020 County Hwy PD performed monthly two-hour concerts where they often featured the music of just one musician/band, many of whose stories are told in Country Music. In 2020, shortly after the series first aired on PBS, Prent and Daithi presented two full-length concerts from the series. It was lots of fun, and they’re looking forward to playing a few of the tunes from each episode prior to Muso showing them on their big screen.
