Public Health Madison and Dane County recently announced a new, less restrictive phase of business and gathering guidelines, effective on Feb. 10. But it will take a lot more vaccinations for life to get back to even a new version of normal. During this panel discussion, UW-Madison Department of Family Medicine professor Jonathan Temte and PHMDC's Janel Heinrich and Doug Voegeli will talk about the various vaccines and the process to receive them, as well as take questions from the public. Jonathan L. Temte, MD, professor, Department of Family Medicine @UW School of Medicine and Public Health: Dr. Jonathan Temte has dedicated his career to creating connections between primary care medicine and public health practice. A professor in the Department of Family Medicine and Community Health and a family medicine physician at the Access Community Health Centers, Temte has served as a clinician, teacher and researcher for 25 years. An expert in vaccines and immunization policy, Temte has served on the U.S. Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP), also acting as chair of its Evidence-Based Recommendation Work Group. Temte is chair of the Wisconsin Council on Immunization Practices, and serves as medical director for Public Health Madison & Dane County. On the national level, Temte is serving an appointment to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Board of Scientific Counselors.
Janel Heinrich, director @Public Health Madison & Dane County: For more than 20 years, Janel has built her career on understanding and addressing the social determinants of health in a variety of public health roles and settings. As Director of Public Health Madison & Dane County, she prioritizes the health and well-being of Dane County residents by emphasizing health and racial equity as a foundational element of the Department’s work. Prior to joining Public Health Madison & Dane County, Janel conducted research and managed public health initiatives on the California-Mexico border and in Chicago. She is a former co-president and current board member of the Wisconsin Association of Local Health Departments and Boards (WALHDAB).
Doug Voegeli, operations chief @Public Health Madison and Dane County: Doug Voegeli is the Director of Environmental Health for Public Health Madison and Dane County. During the COVID 19 Response, Doug has been the Planning Chief, Incident Commander and currently is the Operations Chief. Operations oversees Compliance, Testing, Disease Control, and Vaccination. He has been with PHMDC for 21 years. He was also the Commanding Officer for the 180th Medical Detachment (Preventive Medicine) in Beloit, Wisconsin. He has worked in the military and civilian environmental health field for 36 years. Doug has a BS in Environmental Science from Mankato State University in Mankato, Minnesota. Doug has had the opportunity to work all over the world in many different missions to provide environmental health services to civilian and military populations.
