Dimensions in Sound & The Studio Orchestra
Monona Grove High School 4400 Monona Drive, Monona, Wisconsin 53716
media release: Get ready for an unforgettable afternoon of timeless music as Dimensions in Sound & The Studio Orchestra (DISSO) present their annual Community Concert on Sunday, April 27 at 2:00 PM at the Monona Grove High School Performing Arts Center, 4400 Monona Drive, Monona.
This FREE ADMISSION event brings together the energy of a classic Big Band and the elegance of a full Orchestra in a lively, family-friendly concert suitable for all ages. Audiences will be treated to iconic Big Band hits from the 1930s, ’40s, and early ’50s by Dimensions in Sound, as well as a variety of beloved orchestral pieces, Broadway show tunes, and popular standards performed by The Studio Orchestra.
Donations are welcome to support DISSO’s mission of bringing live music to senior retirement and assisted living communities across the Madison area. Many people living in these communities can lack the ability to access cultural and musical events that are important for cognitive ability. DISSO provides that need.
One of the band members, Lee DeKock, explains, “one of my best memories was when I saw a woman in the audience sitting in a wheelchair. I saw her mouth moving and assumed she was singing to the music along with others. At the end of the concert the staff members were excitedly saying ‘oh my goodness’. I was informed that the woman had not spoken in several months and now she was singing. I believe that DISSO had helped her recovery.”
Dimensions In Sound and The Studio Orchestra, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit based in Madison, Wisconsin. The organization operates two music ensembles dedicated to performing for individuals in senior and assisted living facilities—people who may otherwise be unable to attend live performances due to age or disabilities.
“We have been hosting yearly free community concerts which help us raise funds needed to continue sharing music with those who need it most,” said Melissa Brumm, DISSO Vice President. “Since all our events are private at senior living communities, this is a chance for the public to see what we do bringing joy to the senior population of Dane County.”
While admission is free, a suggested donation $10 is encouraged to support the mission. Contributions of $250 or more will be recognized in DISSO’s concert programs throughout the year. Donations can be made in person at the concert or online at www.disso.org.
