press release:
A quantum leap back in time and a wonderful "escape from reality" awaits visitors to the 7th Annual Renaissance Fantasy Faire. This magical experience will transport guests to the early 15th century and allow them to learn their history in a fun way that will not be easily forgotten. There is something for everyone at this family friendly event which takes place for 2 consecutive weekends each year. This year's event, June 25th, 26th and July 2nd and 3rd will be open from 10am to 6pm on Saturdays and from 10am to 4pm on Sundays.
Easy directions to the Faire are to turn east off of Hwy. 42 at the new BP gas station just 1 mile north of Carlsville and go to 5226 Monument Point Road. Your destination will be 1/2 mile on the right. Watch for the signs and listen for the sounds of music, laughter, and loud HUZZAHS! Tickets are $12 adults; $10 youth (5 - 15) and seniors (60+); children aged four and under and military are free. Cash is preferred, but the Lady Visa, Master Card and Lord Discover are expected to make an appearance this festival season.
Expect a feast for the senses as you enter the beautiful wooded setting: A brightly tented marketplace filled with dozens of vendors hawking their home crafted wares and works of art is nestled among the trees. Four stages with music, dancing, theatrical hilarity and historical "edutainment" will fill the air with shouts of "HUZZAH" and guffaws of laughter. The jousts will have people holding their breath and cheering for their champion knight as the heart pounding action ensues. Characters in the "lanes" along with demonstrations and re-enactments at historical encampments will delight and enchant young and old alike. The time honored treats of cheesecakes on a stick and giant smoked turkey legs are sure to tempt taste buds while ale and mead, the libations of the Renaissance time, glide smoothly over the palate. A labyrinth is set up in the woods to allow a place for quiet reflection.
Sandy Stetler, the director of this event says "We offer an interactive hands on learning experience for the entire family done in such a way that they won't even be aware that they are learning, they'll think they are just having fun! In addition to the educational value of the event, there IS something to be said for "just" having fun and we certainly provide an opportunity to do that with favorites like Gypsy Geoff; the Baron of Bubbles; “Captain Jack Sparrow”; and mythical creatures like unicorns, faeries, wizards, and dragons!".
All proceeds from the event will go to continuing the nonprofit organization's mission of providing education, inspiration and enrichment to families and disabled, disadvantaged or at risk youth.
An event of this size cannot exist without the help of many dedicated and hard working volunteers. Individuals who were born a couple hundred years too late are encouraged to strap on their sword or hammer, lace up their bodice or boots and volunteer. There are many opportunities available now for all ages and benefits include free admission to the Faire.Students receive priority and may qualify to be in a drawing for the new scholarship program this year. Contact Sandy Stetler at 920-746-6773 who will be happy to answer any questions about the scholarship program or about volunteering.
