In 1968, the Beatles released the White Album, McDonald’s debuted the Big Mac for 49¢, and you could see Bonnie and Clyde in the movie theater for $1.50. The average home cost $15,000 and a new car could be bought for $2,800. Quite a few of our current residents have been here for the entirety of the neighborhood’s existence, with some even pre-dating the association.
We have interviewed many current and former residents to put together a documentary demonstrating how Elvehjem has changed and how it has remained the same over the years, and what makes it such a special neighborhood in which to reside. You will hear about what drew these early residents to the far East side, as farms gave way to paved roads, and what made them stay all these years. You will also find out about what has drawn newer residents to this evolving community.
So please join us as we debut the documentary and celebrate past and present board members who have given their time to continue the tradition of our great community events. The public is welcome and encouraged to attend. There will be cake, live music courtesy of the Whiskey Farm Ban , and catered hors d’ouevres, beer, wine, and non-alcoholic drinks. This is a family friendly event, with bounce houses, face painting, and many games for the kids. There will be classic cars on display, as well as collected local artifacts from the past 50 years. There will be chairs and tables available but we encourage you to bring your chairs and blankets as well.
