press release: Eric Miller presents the intimate and ethereal music for the unaccompanied viola da gamba, an instrument described in the late 18th century as one "with which one forgets the troubles of the day in quiet twilight." Highlighted are a pair compositions, one by the obscure Parisian Le Sieur de Machy, and the other by Dutch master Johannes Schenk, A classically trained cellist and viola da gambist, Eric is known to Madison as a member of the Wisconsin Baroque Ensemble and has appeared with many of Madison and Milwaukee's top ensembles.
Tani Diakite with Andy Ewen and Djam Vivie: Tani Diakite is a singer and Kamele N’goni virtuoso from the Wassoulou region of Mali. The Kamele
N’goni is a harp-like instrument crafted from a gourd, goatskin and bamboo. Tani also makes his instruments. Tani’s plaintive singing and deep grooves have made him one of Madison’s most beloved musicians.
Andy Ewen has been a mainstay of the Madison music scene for over three decades. He is best known as the singer-guitarist and songwriter for the Psycho-Blues Rock band, Honor Among Thieves. He and Tani Diakite have been friends and frequent musical collaborators for 15 years.
Djam Vivie is a master wood carver and percussionist from Ghana. He is a founding member of the Atimevu Drum and Dance Ensemble, a Madison based group that performs the traditional music and dances of Ghana. Djam often performs with his good friend, Tani Diakite in a variety of settings.
Louka Patenaude and John Christensen: Jazz guitarist Louka Patenaude's adventures fusing bluegrass, folk and jazz began more than 10 years ago while playin with both The Fingers and jazz luminary Ben Sidran. Louka is crossing traditional acoustic sounds with a richer harmonic traditions from a long time ago. Joined by phenomenal bassist John Christensen, this duo takes on an original sound that can go where no one knows...
