(2022 critics' pick) Veterans of the competitive Chicago folk music scene, Phil Cooper and Susan Urban joined forces as February Sky in 2007, and since 2009 have lived in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. Mixing traditional American and Celtic folk songs and original material written by Urban, the duo keeps the folk tradition alive with Cooper's intricate guitar playing and homespun harmony singing.

media release: February Sky is traditional singer and Celtic guitarist Phil Cooper and songwriter and singer Susan Urban. Phil and Susan present a combination of old and new songs addressing the widest possible range of experience, complete with vocal harmony, intricate instrumentation and thoughtful stagecraft. Phil plays the guitar and cittern and Susan plays guitar, banjo, mountain dulcimer, hand percussion instruments and Native American flute.
They believe that Folk Music is a continuum- whether the songs are self-penned or have a history of thousands of years, as long as they speak to the human condition and the human heart, they carry on the folk music tradition.
