Feeding the Arts: An Empty Bowls Event:
Guests have their choice from a collection of more than 400 ceramic bowls handcrafted and donated by local artists, teachers and students. Soup and salad will be served with bread and other refreshments. Additional pottery sales will be available, as well as kids activities in the gym, including a bounce house and the Imagination Playground. The Madison Parks, Madison School & Community Recreation, and local area potters are involved with the collaboration of the Feeding the Arts event.
The Empty Bowls Project:
Empty Bowls is an international grassroots effort to fight hunger and was created by The Imagine Render Group. The basic premise is simple: Potters and other craftspeople, educators and others work with the community to create handcrafted bowls. Guests are invited to a simple meal of soup and bread. In exchange for a cash donation, guests are asked to keep a bowl as a reminder of all the empty bowls in the world. The money raised at the Madison event will be donated to three area school art programs; Shabazz High School, O’Keefe Middle School, and Gompers Elementary.
