press release: A Room of One's Own is excited to welcome Frazier Douglass, who will showcase his considerable experience in Midwestern camping to our store in support of his latest book, The Family Camping Guide to Wisconsin, Michigan, Illinois, and Indiana!
Frazier Douglass was born and raised in Birmingham, Alabama. He earned his bachelor's and master's degrees in psychology from Auburn University and a Ph.D. in clinical psychology from the UW-Milwaukee. Since age18, he has been an avid tent camper and has taken hundreds of camping vacation trips around the country. Some of his early trips were to the Grand Canyon, Northern Utah, Manitoba Canada, the Great Plains of Kansas, Denver Colorado, and the Florida Gulf Coast. In the mid 1990s, he served as the campground host in a small Dane County Wisconsin county park campground. In 2010, he and his wife began taking three to four week circle tours around Lake Michigan every summer-camping in dozens of campgrounds along the way. To date he has camped in 132 popular campgrounds in Wisconsin, Michigan, Illinois, and Indiana.
Frazier spent over three years thoroughly researching 721 state, federal, county and municipal campgrounds. His book is organized by geographic regions in each state identifying the largest and most popular campgrounds, which makes it perfect for family camping excursions or retiree getaways.
Inside the book you'll find:
Critical information for all 721 state, federal, county, and municipal camping destinations in the four Lake Michigan states
Details needed to evaluate each property as a possible destination, make reservations, and navigate to it
Public campgrounds organized by geographic location, management authority, and number of campsites
A unique system of reference for towns, highways, and landmarks to locate campgrounds on a highway map
Procedures for planning tent camping vacation trips
