media release: Former Wisconsin Badgers standout Freddie Owens will return to Madison on Saturday, April 11,, for a two-stop book signing at the University Book Store, celebrating his new memoir, Echoes of Stark Park.
The signing will take place at:
- 12:00–2:00 p.m. at the University Book Store, 711 State St.
- 4:00–6:00 p.m. at the University Book Store, Hilldale Shopping Center, 454 N. Midvale Blvd.
In Echoes of Stark Park, Freddie Owens traces his path from Milwaukee’s north side to playing for Wisconsin Badgers men's basketball, continuing into a professional career overseas and later collegiate coaching. The memoir delivers an unfiltered look at the pressure, discipline, and setbacks that shaped his identity far beyond the game.
Owens remains closely tied to the UW-Madison, where his impact continues to resonate through leadership, mentorship, and community presence. His return underscores the lasting bond between Badger athletes and the Madison community.
“Freddie Owens represents what it means to be a Badger — resilience, accountability, and commitment to something bigger than yourself,” said University Book Store President Kevin Phelps. “Bringing him back to Madison for this event is about more than a book — it’s about celebrating that connection.”
Books will be available for purchase at both locations. The event is free and open to the public.
