media release: A local church that has made feeding the community a part of its mission will serve another 400 meals for neighbors and congregation members this Thanksgiving Day.
The 29th annual Good Shepherd Thanksgiving meal will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Thursday, November 23. The meal will be served at their Madison location, 5701 Raymond Road in Madison (on the southwest corner of Raymond Road and Whitney Way.)
The church has been serving a meal to the community every Thanksgiving since 1994, including a drive-thru meal during COVID-19. But they have recently expanded their efforts to provide food through their Holy COW (Church on Wheels) food truck. Now, the Thanksgiving meal has become just a part of the larger food offerings provided by the church.
“We have served food at more than 90 events this year through our Holy COW., providing more than 7000 meals to community members,” said Pastor of Community Partnerships Dara Schuller-Hanson. “But this meal has been with us for nearly 30 years and really shows that serving the community through food has always been a part of Good Shepherd’s legacy.”
More than 50 volunteers from the church and the community will help serve the traditional dinner, which includes turkey and dressing, mashed potatoes, cranberries, and pumpkin pie, plus all the trimmings! There is no cost for the meal. Nearly 400 people enjoyed the meal last year.
Schuller-Hanson emphasized that all are welcome to attend. “This meal serves as a way to bring community together,” said Schuller-Hanson. “Welcome is one of the key pillars of both our church’s mission and our strategic plan. We want to welcome everyone, whether they just don’t want to cook this year, or want to enjoy spending time with others on Thanksgiving.”
