Mark Bridges & Vincent Fuh
First Unitarian Society 900 University Bay Drive, Madison, Wisconsin 53705
media release: Mark Bridges, cello & Vincent Fuh, piano
This Musicale will be a great way to start your new year! Sergei Rachmaninoff would be the pianist for the premiere of his Sonata in G Minor for Cello and Piano, and so wrote for himself a monumental, demanding part. In so doing, he elevated the role of the piano in this work from accompaniment to equal with the cello. Russian Romanticism was defined by expressive contrasts, and this is a striking example of that. Robert Schumann's Adagio and Allegro is another example of the turbulent emotions of the Romantic era, turning from tranquil and heartfelt to fiery and passionate.
The Friday Musicales is First Unitarian Society of Madison’s distinguished artist recital series. Since 1971, FUS has offered this free noon-hour recital series as a gift to the community. The music performed is mostly classical, but folk, jazz, and musical theatre styles are presented on occasion. Come hear some of the finest musicians in the Midwest perform in the Frank Lloyd Wright-designed Landmark Auditorium.
