press release: GRAZYNA AUGUSCIK is a Polish-born jazz vocalist based in Chicago. She has recorded 19 CDs and for over 20 years has led her Jazz Quintet. She pursues her artistic endeavors with diverse musical groups in Poland and the USA. Besides jazz, she performs folk, Bossa Nova and classical music. In 2017 she founded the “Sounds and Notes Foundation” which organizes the annual multi-genre “Chopin IN The City” Festival in Chicago.
Her professional music career began in Europe, completed her studies in 1992 at the prestigious Berklee College of Music in Boston, and has since become a prolific collaborator sharing the stage with such jazz notables as Jim Hall, Michael and Randy Brecker, Toots Thielemans, Urszula Dudziak, John Medeski, Kurt Rosenwinkel, Michal Urbaniak, and many others.
Since 1994, Grazyna has made Chicago her home where she performs at the legendary Green Mill, the Chicago Cultural Center, the Millennium Park, to name just a few.
In Austin in the late '90s, John Kregor studied guitar with Adam Holzman, jazz with Jeff Hellmer, and composition with Rick Lawn and Dan Welcher at the University of Texas. After graduating (Magna Cum Laude) in 2000 he moved up to Chicago to check out the scene. Since then he's had the good fortune to play with loads of great cats all over the world. He's still waiting for the catch.
