Great Steps 4NF
press release: Even though Neurofibromatosis (NF) is more prevalent than cystic fibrosis, Duchenne muscular dystrophy and Huntington’s disease combined, many have never heard of NF until it affects someone they love. It is a genetic disorder of the nervous system that affects approximately 1 in 2,500 people of all races and both sexes equally. In simple terms, it causes tumors to form spontaneously on any nerve endings. Unfortunately, it is a progressive disorder and currently there is no cure. Because awareness is so low, relative to how common it is, funding for a cure needs to be dramatically increased!
Neurofibromatosis Midwest (NF Midwest), a 501(c)3 profit, along with local community volunteer leaders, will host the Annual “Great Steps Walk 4NF” beginning at Capital Brewery, Middleton. Proceeds collected from participants and sponsors will be used to improve the lives of children, adults, and families impacted by NF through Clinics, Awareness, Research, Education and Support (C.A.R.E.S.).
The event will kick off at 9 a.m. with registration for all participants, while the roughly 3-mile walk itself will begin at 10:00 a.m. and will have “goodies” passed out along the walk path. At the conclusion of the walk, recognition will be awarded to those raising the most money. There will also be food, drinks, fun characters, raffles and silent auction, featuring a broad assortment of prizes after the walk. It is a fun family event for a great cause! All are welcome!
Adult: $20.00 ($25 event day); Kids (4-10): $12.00; Kids (3-0): Free
