"We just needed to do it," says Amy Cailles, right to left, with friends Ben Abernathy and Chris Gillette.
Some fundraisers ask you to dress up; this one asks you to dress warm. Participants are invited to bring a grill and cook out on frozen Lake Wingra near Vilas Park (grilling spots first come, first served). It’s hosted by Savory Sunday — the Madison nonprofit that has been serving a hot meal every Sunday for 20 years at the Capitol or James Madison Park. Donations of money and nonperishable food items help keep the meals coming.
media release: We are celebrating 20 years of Savory Sunday serving a hot meal, every Sunday afternoon, in the basement of the state Capitol!, with the annual Grilling for Peace fundraiser.
Everyone is welcome to this free event. Join us Saturday, February 7, from 11am to 2pm, on the ice, at Vilas Park on Lake Wingra. There’s no cost to attend this celebration fundraiser. Monetary and dry/canned goods donations gladly accepted! Bring your friends, your grill, some food & good spirits, and together, we’ll toast you - the generous community that has sustained us for two decades. “People in need, mouths to feed.”
