Spiral Joy Band, Half-Scratches, Bob Piggins, DJ Trin-Tran
Mickey's Tavern 1524 Williamson St., Madison, Wisconsin 53703
Unpredictable pleasures are on tap as long-running experimental collective Spiral Joy Band explores what sort of soundscapes several people can create with non-electric instruments; it’s often hypnotic, sometimes jarring, but always one-of-a-kind. More likely to be jarring is Bob Piggins, a duo featuring members of aggressive outfits such as Xerobot and Drugs Dragons. And for clubgoers who have been missing frenetic punk trio Solid Freex, Half-Scratches is a new band featuring guitarist Josh Coombs-Broekema and bassist Evan Coombs-Broekema; Freex drummer Steve Coombs (aka Trin-Tran) will be DJing between bands.
Free/donations.
media release: SPIRAL JOY BAND
Midwestern psychedelic drone featuring Patrick Best from the storied Richmond VA band Pelt....on Feeding Tube Records.....these local legends will coax and inspire emotion with lush instrumentation. They will "saturate the air with colors...[they are] sonic explorers dedicated to a very specific corner of the universe, but it's one that contains the sort of magical powers that we all need more than ever. If I were a doctor I'd prescribe a daily dose of their music as an antidote to the rigors of reality as we know it." -Bryon Coley, 2022 DUSTED Magazine
HALF-SCRATCHES
The better part of the Madison band SOLID FREEX, Josh (guitar, vocals) and Evan Coombs-Broekema (bass, vocals) joined up with drummer Riana in Chicago to form this newly minted vehicle that has shifted gears from punk rock to weird pop. First show in Madison!! Fueled by JSCB's songwriting and lead vocals, this crew is primed and ready to bust back in to the show circuit that left deez Freex reeling in a ccovvidd haze in 2020. Come party like it's 2019!
BOB PIGGINS
Featuring the inimitable Greg Peters (Xerobot, My Name Is Rar-Rar, Katzenmallets, Buttress), and Tony Schwab (Drugs Dragons, Night Terrors, Sagger, Ornerys) this product of an uneasy Chicago/Milwaukee alliance will transport you to the land of children's theater, and though it may initially seem like you have boarded a train with Jimmy Saville driving and Gary Glitter shoveling coal, it's actually quite wholesome and sincere, and fucking brilliant. DON'T MISS!
With DJ TRIN-TRAN digging through his rekKids to provide appropriate audio interludes punctuated throughout the evening's scheduled performances
Starts at 10pm!! FREE!! Come hang!
