press release: Now in its seventh year, The Driftless Film Festival will announce its programming lineup in tandem with a screening of homegrown Wisconsin feature HALFWAY at the Mineral Point Opera House Friday August 19th at 7:30pm.
Shot in Montfort, Mineral Point, Prairie du Chien, and Dubuque, HALFWAY stars Quinton Aaron (THE BLIND SIDE) and is the story of a recently released convict who faces the conflict of enduring ties with his old criminal world while struggling to adapt to life on probation as the only black man in a conservative white farm town. Writer/Director Ben Caird will be in attendance for a Q&A after the screening.
"We are delighted to kick off our seventh season with a film that hits so close to home,” says Festival Director, Eve Studnicka. “It's always a real treat to showcase work that was created regionally, and HALFWAY is a superb example of the stories, struggles, and landscapes that are unique to rural Wisconsin. The accompanying lineup release marks the beginning of our festival season, and I'm incredibly excited to announce a 2016 program that features more dynamic, provocative, and captivating films than ever before - including some exceptional Midwest-produced content that is sure to make us all proud of the creative potential present right here in the Heartland."
