Handel Aria Competition

media release:  The 11th annual Handel Aria Competition will take place on Friday, August 9 at 7:30 at Grace Episcopal Church on the capitol square. Six finalists have been selected from around the world to come to Madison to compete. These emerging artists will each perform two arias from Handel’s operas, oratorios and cantatas, accompanied by the Madison Bach Musicians under the direction of Trevor Stephenson. Tickets are $25, general admission, and can be purchased via Eventbrite. Livestream tickets are also available.

Our six amazing finalists, chosen from 120 applicants from around the world, will each sing two arias by Handel. Clockwise from upper left, they are:

• Chea Kang, soprano 
• Edmond Rodriguez, tenor
• Matt Hill, tenor
• Harrison Hintzsche, baritone
• Eli McCormack, male soprano
• Amy Broadbent, soprano

The singers will be accompanied on period instruments by the acclaimed Madison Bach Musicians, under the direction of Trevor Stephenson.  We are pleased to announce that we're bringing back the popular Audience Favorite vote for the first time since the pandemic.This year's competition will again be live streamed, and we look forward to welcoming viewers from around the country and abroad.
