Here for Good Capital Campaign Kick-off

press release: With only one option for public child care in central downtown Madison, the city is at risk of losing an important resource that provides balance and flexibility to families of Madison.  Creative Learning Preschool (CLP) has embarked on the ‘Here for Good’ Capital Campaign to purchase our building.

With a population of 25,000 and businesses growing at a faster than ever rate, central downtown Madison must maintain resources to support families and workers, especially high-quality childcare. “Downtown Madison's explosion of development is threatening the future of Creative Learning Preschool by pricing us out of our neighborhood. If Creative Learning cannot stay downtown, the Capitol Square will become a childcare desert," said Mary Flanner, CLP Executive Director.

Creative Learning Preschool’s ‘Here for Good’ capital campaign is raising $500,000 - the necessary down payment to purchase its current building, just two blocks from the state capitol. Owning the building will ensure that CLP can continue serving up to 150 children, which constitute the only public childcare slots in central downtown, and more than a third of the available slots in the greater downtown area).

Purchasing their building will drastically reduce costs for the nonprofit early childhood education center, enabling immediate savings of $70,000/year, increasing to more than $300,000 annually. CLP is committed to reinvesting those savings into increased scholarship programs for low-income children, increased wages for the skilled early childhood educators at CLP, and maintaining affordability for all families. Most importantly, by purchasing their building, Creative Learning ensures that there will always be high quality childcare, available to all, in the heart of our city.

Creative Learning Preschool is a not-for-profit 501 (c) (3) governed by a Board of Directors comprised of parents and community members. We are a play based preschool conveniently located just off the Capitol Square in Downtown Madison. We provide children with a warm, safe and nurturing environment and strive to meet each child’s developmental needs. Our low child to staff ratios and small group sizes ensure quality, personalized care for every child.  CLP offers full and part-time preschool programming and childcare services for children ages six weeks to 5 years of age. We are a contracted 4-K community site with Madison Metropolitan School District and offer additional programming for school age children during the summer months.
