press release: Finding Lieutenant Fazekas
The University of Wisconsin Missing In Action (MIA) Recovery and Identification Project (RIP) is a project focused on advancing the recovery of MIA's by involving an academic blend of knowledge and research as well as educating students in a number of scholarly disciplines. The current focus is on recovery and identification of World War II US Forces in the European Theater.
Leslie Eisenberg, Honorary Fellow in the Department of Anthropology at UW-Madison, Ryan Wubben, Medical Director of UW Hospital Med Flight, and Charles Konsitzke, Associate Director of the Biotechnology Center at UW-Madison, discuss their roles in finding the remains of first lieutenant Frank Fazekas who was shot down in France in World War II. Hear the story of recovering the wreckage at the crash site long after his P-47 Thunderbolt plane fell from formation over northern France during World War II — a little more than a week before the D-day invasion in 1944.
