History Sandwiched In: Audiovisual Treasures from the Wisconsin Center for Film and Theater Research
Expanding upon the June History Sandwiched In program by Mary Huelsbeck, assistant director of the Wisconsin Center for Film and Theater Reasearch (WCFTR), this presentation by the WCFTR's film archivist Amy Sloper will showcase some of the audiovisual treasures from the collection, including clips highlighting the broad scope of genres and time periods of the film and video in our vaults. Treasures will be both local and national in scale, including a selection of rare home movies from the former president of MGM Studios, a little-seen appearance from Frank Lloyd Wright on a national talk show, and scenes of downtown Madison from the first half of the twentieth century.
The Wisconsin Center for Film and Theater Research is one of the world’s major archives of research materials relating to the entertainment industry. Its collection includes papers from Kirk Douglas, Rod Serling, Stephen Sondheim, Edith Head—to name a few—along with twenty thousand motion pictures, television shows and videotapes, two million photographs and posters, and several thousand sound recordings.
