Immigré
UW Memorial Union-Play Circle 800 Langdon St., Madison, Wisconsin 53706
press release: The fourth and final concert in the fall 2018 InDIGenous Jazz Series will feature the local Afrobeat ensemble Immigré.
The ten-person Madison ensemble Immigré combines swirling, repetitive guitar patterns with deep, funky bass lines, monstrous percussion, and a lively horn section, accentuated by pulsing electric piano comps. Afrobeat music combines styles of West African music with elements funk, jazz, and Afro-Caribbean music, and Immigré does a masterful job covering all of that terrain. The horn section features some of the best improvising musicians in Madison, including Tony Barba on tenor saxophone, David Cooper on trumpet, Jamie Kember on trombone, and Bryan Elliott on baritone saxophone. Dance music to the core, the audience won't be able to stay in their seats for long.
The InDIGenous Jazz Series, presented by the Madison Music Collective, is now in its fourth year, and eighth season, of presenting free concerts featuring original, improvised music composed and performed by local and regional jazz musicians and bandleaders. This is the second of four concerts that will be presented this fall at the UW Memorial Union Play Circle.
