In Search of the Darkest Skies: Wisconsin and Beyond
UW Space Place 2300 S. Park St., Suite LL-100, Madison, Wisconsin
press release: Lecture by John Rummel, astrophotographer and former president Madison Astronomical Society
Progress and development always come at a cost, and one of the under appreciated costs of progress is the loss of dark night skies. Lovers of nature, amateur astronomy and wild places can still find and enjoy pristine dark skies, but the search (and the drive) may take longer. This presentation will focus on issues related to locating the remaining dark sky enclaves that can be found within the continental United States (including right here around S. Wisconsin), and some of the logistical and planning issues involved in getting to them.
