Is Local News Dead?

press release: Can democracy work without local news? Greater Madison is invited to hear a panel of four experienced local journalists address that very question.
The discussion is 5:30 pm – 7:00 pm, Tuesday, April 23, 2019, in Anderson Auditorium. The event is free and open to the public.
The panelists:
· Patty Loew is a professor in the Medill School of Journalism and Director of the Indigenous Research Center at Northwestern University in Chicago. A documentary producer and former broadcast journalist in public and commercial television, Loew is the award-winning author of Indian Nations of Wisconsin: Histories of Endurance and Renewal, which won the Wisconsin Library Association’s 2002 Outstanding Book Award.
· Jessica Arp is the assistant news director and reporter for WISC-TV and Channel 3000.com. Named the 2019 Distinguished Wisconsin Watchdog, Arp has reported on Wisconsin politics for News 3 Now in Madison since 2007 and has received the Edward R. Murrow Wisconsin Broadcasters Association and several Emmy awards for her coverage of Wisconsin elections.
· John Nichols is the associate editor of the The Cap Times and the national affairs correspondent for The Nation. A pioneering political blogger, his posts have been circulated internationally, quoted in numerous books, and mentioned in debates on the floor of Congress.
· Dee Hall is managing editor and a co-founder of the Wisconsin Center for Investigative Journalism. The recipient of more than three dozen local, state and national awards for her work, Hall worked at the Wisconsin State Journal for 24 years as an editor and reporter focusing on projects and investigations and at The Arizona Republic in Phoenix for eight years.
