press release: On December 13, 2018, Jerry Traczyk was in a horrible accident that left him with burns on nearly 80% of his body. He has been in the Burn Intensive Care Unit at Hennepin County Medical Center in Minneapolis since then and has undergone several surgeries and many skin grafting operations. He has an extremely long road to recovery ahead of him but is lucky to be alive and is improving daily.
Jerry currently lives in Hayward, Wisconsin but was a Madisonian for years and very involved in the local culinary scene as a chef (Salvatore’s, Paisans, Ironworks Cafe at Goodman Community Center), butcher and sausage maker (Underground Meats & Bavaria Sausage) and also taught cooking and butchering classes throughout the state.
Patrick DePula, owner of Salvatore’s Tomato Pies is donating his time and restaurant space to host a fundraiser for Jerry on Monday, April 15th at the Salvatore’s Sun Prairie location from 6-9 PM. Area chefs Dan Bonanno of Pig in a Fur Coat, Tory Miller of Graze, L’Etoile and Sujeo, Tyler Sailsbery of The Black Sheep in Whitewater and others will create and cook specialty pizzas for sale during the fundraiser with all proceeds going to help with Jerry’s medical costs.
The fundraiser is open to the public and will also include a meat raffle, Silent Auction and a DJ.
