The JIMMYS are BACK!!
“The last time I reviewed The Jimmys they were recording live in Transylvania so it is good to see they escaped OK and have managed to put some daylight between themselves and old Vlad. Tony Braunagel drummed and produced these thirteen tracks, whilst singer and keyboards player Jimmy Voegeli wrote the majority of them. Guitarist/ singer Perry Weber also supplies several, including the rocking opening track, ‘Ain’t Seen Nothin’ Yet’, with its big sounding horn section. Marcia Ball (who guests on vocals) and Braunagel helped to co-write the Crescent City flavoured ‘Write A Hit’ with its delightful sticky rhythm, the Billy Boy Arnold-inflected ‘Always A Woman’ is from Gary Nicholson and Kevin McKendree, and Jim Liban was the source for the slow, BB King influenced blues of ‘Someday Baby’. The title track is a fine 50s styled slab of guitar driven jumping R’n’B, ‘Started Up Again’ draws unashamedly from Slim Harpo’s ‘Scratch My Back’. The closing track is a fine early 60s styled organ instrumental with a hint of New Orleans to it. Really, though, there’s not a poor track here on this recommended release.” - Norman Darwen, BITS Blues In the South
“The Jimmys are excellent musicians, wildly fun entertainers, and perform a slew of strong, original songs. They’re a treat for any fans of roots rock, old school R&B, and straight-up blues. every performance is like a party!” - Bruce Iglauer, Alligator Records
Jimmy Voegeli - Singer/Songwriter, Keyboardist, Band Leader
Led by singer/songwriter and keyboardist, Jimmy Voegeli, a UW-Madison CALS alum. During the day Jimmy helps out on his family's sixth-generation dairy farm. They till 1,500 acres of crop land, robotically milk 130 purebred Brown Swiss dairy cows; and export embryos, bull semen, and live animals all over the world! They show and exhibit dairy cattle throughout the states. His grandfather, father, and brother are world-renowned dairy geneticists, selling their genetics to hundreds of countries.
Jimmy grew up in a house constantly filled with music and singing – his parents met at one of his father’s gigs. He played the piano, yet struggled through piano lessons, then flunked high school band on trumpet. Jimmy made that report card the cover of his first solo album: “F” is for Blues,” featuring Grammy-winning blues-man Billy Flynn on guitar; Clyde Stubblefield, James Brown’s original funky drummer; and his inspiring tough-love band teacher, Mike Korth, on trombone.
A Hammond Organ Artist, Jimmy's won MAMA (Madison Area Music Award) awards for "Keyboardist of the Year" in 2010, 2012, 2015; “Organist of the Year” in 2021 & 2022 and MAMA Hall of Fame Class “Piano”.
