November 4-December 29, 2016, Pyle Center, 2nd and 3rd floors, 702 Langdon Street, Madison
Opening Reception with Prof. Josh Chover Friday, November 18, 5-7:30pm
More than 60 paintings representing by Prof. Josh Chover are on display in the From My Inner Eye. The exhibition represent 58 years of work by the partly self-taught artist and former University of Wisconsin-Madison math professor. Many paintings will be on display for the first time.
The display will be the first exhibition of Chover’s lifetime of work, which represents various feelings and experiences and is highly personal, reflecting the joys of family relationships as well as the sorrow of dementia, schizophrenia, suicide, and depression. “For many years I’ve tried to represent various feelings on canvas, so that I could assess them better, and perhaps deprive them of a sting,” Chover explains in his book Through Older Eyes.
Prof. Chover has determined that proceeds from the exhibition sales will go to local non-profits, including Art Cart, a free art program for children in Dane County, offered by the Madison Museum of Contemporary Art (MMoCA) in partnership with Madison School & Community Recreation (MSCR).
