It is said that neo romantic composer Vittorio Giannini was driven by “an unrelenting quest for the beautiful.” His music soared through me with its beauty, yet caused in me anger at the discord and darkness we humans can create. I visioned ‘gods and goddesses’ of the golden mean just a bit angered by our folly.

A suite of three songs, the tone is turn of the 20th century romanticism. In the first song the year is personifi ed by a woman; the months, as shadows and blowing dusty images of autumn. This is a celebration of autumn. In the second song the poetry suggest time passage and remembrance. The Brontë sisters created an imaginary world that they named Gondal. Many of their poems were based on the lives of its fictitious inhabitants. Here the sisters are immersed in their determined bittersweet creation. In the final song, and in a seven count, John Keats speaks to us in jubilant and bright tone. The voice sings from overhead and the dance swirls below, uplifting the spirit. -Dedicated in memory of Richard J Thurrell and Richard Zillman.
