KG & the Ranger
Wyoming Valley School Cultural Arts Center, Spring Green 6306 Hwy. 23, Spring Green, Wisconsin 53588
press release: The Rural Musicians Forum takes a musical journey through the sagebrush for its final concert of the 2015 summer concert season on August 23 at the Wyoming Valley School Arts Center south of Spring Green. With award-winning cowboy yodelers KG and the Ranger, you can saddle up your imagination for a ride to the Old West. Their smooth harmony singing will bring back memories of the Sons Of The Pioneers, Roy Rogers, Gene Autry and other cowboy stars of the Silver Screen. They yodel in harmony and keep the audience entranced with interesting bits of history about the cowboy songs they sing.
Karen Gogolick and Rick Roltgen have been bringing the Old West to the Midwest since teaming up as a husband and wife duo in 1989. They met at a community barn dance, and brought together more than 20 years of musical experience, from folk music to barbershop, to create their present unique Western sound. Known for their harmony singing, harmony yodeling and cowboy humor, they specialize in the songs of the Hollywood cowboys, plus Ranger Rick's exciting trick rope-spinning.
Three times "Harmony Yodeling Champions" (Western Music Association, 2005, 2002, 1999), they have also won numerous other awards for their showmanship and fantastic harmony singing. In 2001 the Academy of Western Artists nominated them for "Rising Stars" and "Western Music Duo/group", and they were nominated for the WMA's 2002 "Crescendo"award. In 2007, KG was one of five finalists for the Academy of Western Artist's Yodeler of the Year. In 2010 the WMA voted them "Outstanding Entertainer - Duo" of the year.
For the Spring Green concert, KG & The Ranger’s daughter Angie and son-in-law Tom Otte will join in the fun. Angie and Tom live near Fond du Lac and also perform as the Otte Family Band which includes all three of their children. They each have a long history of musical theater and playing in a variety of bands. This concert will feature Angie’s vocal harmonies and Tom’s talents on upright bass, to go along with KG’s banjo and harmonica and Ranger Rick’s rhythm guitar.
